PRISM LGBTQ+ Therapy

PRISM – Psychotherapy for Relationships, Identity, Sexuality, and Mental Health – is our dedicated LGBTQ+ counseling program at Affiliates in Counseling. Our team provides affirming and sensitively tailored psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, children, and adolescents across the full spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations.
Our clinicians have considerable training and experience working with LGBTQ+ clients. We understand the unique stressors that can come with navigating identity, relationships, family systems, discrimination, trauma, and intersectionality. We are dedicated to creating a therapeutic space where you do not have to explain or defend who you are.
You deserve care that sees and affirms your whole self.

What we offer
PRISM provides individual, relationship, family, child/adolescent, and group therapy grounded in affirmative practice. We offer both in person and virtual appointments.
Our therapists are experienced in addressing both general mental health concerns and the nuanced intersections between mental health and:
- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity and expression
- Race and ethnicity
- Culture and religion
- Age, ability, body size, and other lived identities
Our work is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in helping you embrace the full spectrum of your needs, strengths, and potential.

Through the prism of therapy, identity unfolds—revealing a beautiful spectrum of possibility, authenticity, and belonging.

Individual Therapy
Within the PRISM program, individual therapy involves regular one-on-one sessions with an LGBTQ+-affirming and knowledgeable therapist.
We strive to build a strong rapport with every client and see the relationship between client and therapist as the primary vehicle for healing.
PRISM team members create a safe space within which you can freely explore the full spectrum of your internal world of thoughts and emotions and address barriers to living more authentically.

Relationship Therapy
Within the PRISM program, relationship therapy involves partners meeting regularly with an affirming, sex-positive, kink- and poly-aware therapist to address and resolve relationship struggles.
We are ready to guide and support LGBTQ+ couples through the process toward their goals of more healthy and fulfilling relationships.
PRISM team members are uniquely attuned to the multitude of potential partner conflicts that permeate queer relationships in particular.

Family Therapy
Within the PRISM program, family therapists recognize that the concept of family can mean a multitude of things and varied relationship structures, and we welcome them all.
Family therapy may include different combinations of family members such as parent-child relationships, parent-adult child relationships, chosen family, step-family, biological family, adoptive family and wide range of additonal family structures that define family today.
PRISM team members are available to work with families of any kind who are, for any reason, seeking a therapist seasoned in working with the LGBTQ+ population.Â

Teens & Adolescent Therapy
Within the PRISM program, teens are matched with an LGBTQ+-affirming, experienced child/adolescent therapist who helps them navigate their unique circumstances with greater self-awareness and toward more full identity development.
Sessions provide young people with a safe space wherein they can build self-esteem, grow confident, and learn about the power of vulnerability.
PRISM team members are specially trained to work with minors and to collaborate closely with caregivers and other treatment providers to ensure comprehensive, individually-tailored care.
