Trained as a psychoanalyst, I appreciate the power of two people talking to each other about the thoughts, feelings, and issues that matter deeply and yet might be difficult to understand. In examining what lies beneath the surface of our mind, in psychoanalysis, we have an opportunity to learn about the complexity of feelings, behaviors, and reactions that might be outside of everyday awareness. In our talk, there is an opportunity to discover emotional freedoms, learn about patterns in behaviors, or uncover past trauma, that will likely lead to lasting change. The therapeutic relationship and setting offer powerful means to be able to better know and understand yourself and be able to recover from hurt and pain, as well as to restore a sense of internal steadiness.
