Dana Louise Martin, Psy.D., Postdoctoral Resident

Dr. Dana Martin graduated from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology with her doctorate in clinical psychology after earning her bachelors of arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she graduated with honors. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow with Affiliates in Counseling.  Dr. Dana specializes in working with adolescents and adults in individual, group, and couples counseling. She has extensive training and experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and interpersonal relationship issues.

Dr. Dana has received training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which utilizes mindfulness and acceptance to improve the quality of a person’s life.  She has also been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy which is an evidence-based practice that focuses on processing traumatic and distressing experiences and emotions to help alleviate associated psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and hypervigilance.  She is also trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, which is a type of therapy for couples that focuses on increasing intimacy, affection, and respect in a relationship, while improving communication and conflict management skills. Her therapeutic orientation utilizes an integrative approach, which relies most heavily on person-centered, psychodynamic, ACT, and EMDR therapy.

Personal Statement:

My therapeutic approach is focused on guiding the client to discovering their personal truth while providing a therapeutic environment that allows the client to safely explore their issues in a way that enhances personal growth and development. I utilize a holistic health approach that considers the whole person and their environment and emphasizes the mind, body, spirit connection. With client consent I am happy to work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to offer the best quality of care. I believe that people are capable of great change with the right guidance and support.
