John Sorce, MSW, Social Worker

John Sorce is a social worker with a diverse background in the mental health field. He has worked in hospitals, schools, and private practice providing individual therapy, art therapy, family therapy and couples counseling. He earned his graduate degree in clinical social work from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois with a specialty in crisis counseling and behavioral therapy.

John has developed creative therapy programs for kids dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD and anger. While at Thrive Counseling Center and West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, he provided clinical treatment including involuntary hospitalization, behavior modification and group therapy. John also provides mental health status examinations for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery at Little Company of Mary in Evergreen Park.

Personal Statement
I use a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy approach with my clients. So what does that mean exactly? Simply put, our thoughts influence the emotions we experience on a minute-to-minute basis everyday. These thoughts reflect our beliefs we have about our relationships, society, family, love, career and overall self-image. This process influences and drives our behaviors. In my practice I focus on helping individuals understand themselves and clarify their goals in a safe supportive environment. Through establishing trust and a good rapport this becomes the catalyst for change, empowerment and overall greater life satisfaction.
